The locals enjoy socializing and dancing, festivities and music play an important role in their lives. Depending on the time of year, you can enjoy live music and traditional dancing brought to you by local performers at the Kiri Kiri bar at White Sand Beach Resort.
Polynesian tradition was nearly wiped out by European missionaries who tried to 'reform' their newfound colonies. They destroyed temples and carvings and banned the dancing and tattooing, which was nearly lost in these parts. Since the 1980’s there has been a strong revival and a real interest in rediscovering these traditional arts.
